During the summer, there are many (indoor/outdoor) concerts. Please take advantage of them. After attending a concert, write a short paragraph describing the concert, the music, the artist and the venue. The paragraph will be collected on the first music class of the year.

Students should attend a dance performance (dance recitals are not an option) or participate in a musical production. Note what dance forms are used and how they affect the development of the story and the characters. If you attend a dance performance, note the styles of dance and your reactions to them. Write a brief paragraph describing your experience. This is to be passed in at your first dance class

Advanced: In addition to the above work, your task is to produce a 3 paragraph piece of analytical writing which explores the way Koro feels about Kahu, his great granddaughter. You need to show how Koro dismisses Kahu for a long time, but eventually accepts her as the person who will secure the future of the tribe. You must use at least 2 quotes from the text in order to support your point of view.
All work should be typed and ready to hand in on the first full day of class.

In Chapter I, compare the creation myths of the Greeks with that of the creation story of the Bible in the Book of Genesis, Chapter one (all) and Chapter two, Verses 1-3 only. Please write out any similarities or differences you see in the stories.
In Chapter II, pick your favorite “hero in the making” and explain why.

Write a letter to a major movie producer and try to convince him/her to make the book into a movie. Include in your letter a brief summary of the story, a pivotal scene, and a character summary of the main character.
You can recommend actors and actresses to play the roles of the characters and the book. The assignment should be typed, 1” margins, 12 point Times New Roman font and 1 -2 pages in length. Have this completed to hand in on the first day of class. Have fun with this!
