Class Day Awards

 

Sr. Ann Morrison presents Kate Butler '11 the Jefferson Book Award on Class Day.

The Academy presents awards to deserving students in all areas of academia each year on Class Day. 

The Katharine Forbes Erskine Award was created in 1989 to honor Katharine Forbes Erskine, Notre Dame Academy Honorary trustee, on the occasion of her 100th birthday. The award is given to a junior who has involved herself in significant work for the benefit of others and has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the community.

The Sister Kathleen Doyle Award was established in 1991 in grati­tude to Sr. Kathleen for her dedication to Notre Dame Academy and is awarded to a sophomore who achieves in Religious Studies, demonstrates quiet generosity to NDA and can be relied upon by her classmates.

The Sr. Justina Daley Love in Action Award is presented to a student in recognition of her service to others and her dedication to the Notre Dame Acad­emy mission.

The Lucius James Knowles Memorial Award was established in 1981 to honor the contribution of the Knowles family to Worcester and is presented to a student who has a great interest in the study of history and who has done exceptionally well in her history courses.

The Sr. Marie Augusta Neal Award was established in 2006 to honor the memory of Sr. Marie Augusta SND, a pioneer in the study of Sociology, Social Change and the role of women inth e Church.  It is awarded to a senior who exhibits a strong understanding of the wide range of issues confronting societies in the modern world.

The Sr. Mary Elizabeth Broderick Award was established in 2006 to honor Sr. Mary Elizabeth for her 35 years of service to Notre Dame Academy. This award recognizes a senior who exhibits superior interest and achievement in the study of Psychology.

The Smith - Begun Leadship Award was established in 2009 to honor the memory of Sr. Mary Sharon Smith and Mrs. kelly Begun, cherished guidance counselors at the Academy. The award is presented to a senior who exemplifies the characteristics of loyalty, integrity, responsibility and service to Notre Dame Academy. This senior has inspired others with her exceptional dedication to the NDA community.

The Sarah Knowles deCoizart Medal of Honor was established 18 May 1992 in gratitude for Sarah Knowles deCoizart’s generosity to Knollwood, her childhood home, and is presented to a student who uses her talent in art to enrich the lives of others.

The André deCoizart Medal of Honor was established on 5 February 1994 in gratitude for Trustee André deCoizart’s generosity to Notre Dame Academy and is presented to a student who exhibits superior interest, hard work and dedication to the study of foreign language.

The Mabel Knowles Gage Award was established in 1995 by the Benard Family of Paris to honor Mrs. Gage’s outstanding spirit of generosity and is presented to a student who uses her ability in music to enrich the lives of others.

The Patricia Humes Memorial Scholarship was established in 1980 by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Humes in loving memory of their daughter Patty, Class of 1981, and is awarded to a junior who has attended Notre Dame Academy for three years, has a strong academic record and, like Patty, shows dedication to the school.

The Frances O’Keefe English Award was established in 1995 to honor the contributions of Frances O’Keefe to the English Depart­ment of Notre Dame Academy. The award recognizes the senior who best displays a love of literature as demonstrated by a facility with language and a mastery of analysis.

The Theta Award was established by the Mathematics Department in 1995. The award recognizes that senior who has developed her mathematical ability and who has been willing to share this ability by peer tutoring.

The Catalyst Award was established in 1995 by the Science De­partment and is presented to the student who has shown enthusiasm for and achievement in her science courses and who plans to pursue a career in some field of science.

The Prospero Theater Award is presented to a student who has shown dedi­cation to the entire theater program, who has an awareness of the value of all aspects of the art, and who has shown a passion for and a dedication to theater and its magic.

The Alison Ling Pierce Award was established in 2000 by Mrs. Anna Ling Pierce in loving memory of her daughter Ali, Class of 2000, and is awarded to a senior who reflects Ali’s spirit of joyful courage.
