KEYBOARDING/Computer Applications
Course Requirements and Grading
Grades: Grade 9
Overview: Keyboarding / Computer Applications is a one-year course designed to familiarize all students with the fundamentals of computing. Even the student who has never touched a computer before will be able to prepare professional looking documents with minimal effort by the end of the course.
This course is designed to help students learn to use features of Microsoft Office 2003: Word, desktop publishing, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. An emphasize will be on keyboarding, terminology, basic concepts, Microsoft® Windows function of components, the difference between hardware and software as well as operating systems and application software. In addition, using proper techniques in keyboarding; alphabet, punctuation symbols, and numbers will be taught. Also students will lean how to use electronic tools (Internet) to obtain educational information pertaining to their subject matters.Grading: The student will be graded based upon her technique; form, class work, keyboard mastery, speed and accuracy, and projects. Attendance is crucial in keeping up with developing speed and accuracy, as well as maintaining class productivity and hands-on activity.
This course will be graded as follows. First and second quarters: 50% on technique and keyboard mastery on speed and accuracy, as well as quizzes; 50% on class work/productivity and homework assignments. The assignments will be graded based on format and accuracy.
Third and fourth quarters: 50% on class work/productivity; and projects (all computer assignments and written assignments given during class time). The overall grade will be 30% Class work/productivity, 20% homework assignments.. Any assignments missed will have to be made up in the computer lab during school hours only.
Other: If a student is absent, she needs to make up her work within ten (10) days of returning to school. It is up to the student to approach me regarding assignments she has missed.
If a student needs extra help, it is imperative that she meets with me as soon as possible. I want all students to be successful. If there is a problem, I encourage my students to speak with me. I will help them in any way that I can.
NOTE: ALL CLASSWORK MUST BE COMPLETED ON A SCHOOL COMPUTER—No work will be accepted that has been completed outside of SCHOOL EXCEPT HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS.
