Christmas Comes Early to NDA

Mrs. Mulford's Biology class with some of the Christmas gifts for AIDS Project Worcester.

Two hundred children will be having a merry Christmas thanks to the generosity of students at Notre Dame Academy.  That is the number of gifts collected for AIDS Project Worcester.  Toys and games as well as clothing and toiletries were lovingly purchased, wrapped and tied with a ribbon for families in need this holiday season.  The gifts will be sent to AIDS Project Worcester's "store," a store with no cash registers or sales slips.  Families simply come in to "shop" for what they need and what their children - from newborns to age sixteen - deserve this Christmas.

Celebrating the Season

Guests were treated to a preview of the Quilt Exhibit in the Flagg Art Gallery during the festivities.

Many Hands Make Beautiful Works

A luminous look at the Quilt Show

Art literally hung from the rafters as the Flagg Art Gallery held its first Quilt Exhibit in early December. Thirteen artisans shared their handiwork in a colorful display of textile work ranging from wall hangings to king size bedspreads. As with all works of art, each submission told a story ranging from a mother's gift to her children to a husband creating a surprise birthday gift for his wife.  There were quilts that made a political statement and quilts that celebrated outer space!  Senior Valerie Bedard and her father Stephen graciously shared the works of mother and wife Kathleen Ryan Bedard '83 who passed away just a year ago. Kathleen's quilts, "Ocean Waves" and "Snowflakes in Autumn," were hung just outside the main gallery to welcome guests into the colorful display inside. Other artisans sharing their talents included Joan Bedard (Valerie's grandmother), Kathy Shea Colling '67 and husband Mark, Carleen Daly, Sandra Hakkarainen, Emily Haley of the Academy's English Department, Chris Hunt, Jan Maki, Christine Meyers, Donna Munn, Alicia Sosnoff, Laima Whitty, and Jan Wilson.

Is There a Doctor in the House?

Dr. Seuss That Is!

It is not too early to start preparing for the invasion of Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, Yertle the Turtle and Thing One and Thing Two - just some of the characters coming to Notre Dame Academy March 17 - 20th, as the Drama Department presents the musical "Seussical" based on the characters of Dr. Seuss.  Watch for ticket sale announcements!

In conjunction with the musical, the Academy will be producing a Seussical Ad Book.  If you would like to support this fundraiser and see your company represented in the book or would like to submit a personal message to members of the cast and crew for publication, please contact Mary Kennedy by calling 508-757-6200 ext. 230 or e-mail her here.

Need a gift for that last person on your list?  Consider a gift to NDA!

Gifts to the Academy's Annual Fund can be made in honor of an individual (or individuals).  It will be a gift that continues to give as it will impact the daily lives of all NDA students.  You can make a gift to the 2010-2011 Annual Fund by clicking here.  All gifts postmarked by December 31, 2010 are eligible for a tax deduction this year.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year!
