414 Spanish 1
Honors
Spanish 1 is an introductory course for students who have had little or no Spanish. Basic grammatical structures, vocabulary, verb forms, and idiomatic expressions are introduced. Emphasis is placed on developing communication skills in spoken and written Spanish. Spanish culture is introduced through appropriate readings, projects, and class presentations.423 Spanish 2
Advanced
This course continues to focus on communication skills through the study of grammar, continued vocabulary acquisition, expanded conversation, and original composition. Students are expected to develop their listening and reading skills and to continue the study of Spanish and Latin American culture. This course is open to students have demonstrated a certain proficiency in spoken and written Spanish and have been recommended by the teacher.424 Spanish 2
Honors
Spanish 2 continues to focus on communication skills through the study of grammar, continued vocabulary acquisition, expanded conversation, and controlled and original composition. Speaking and listening is practiced and the students continue to study Spanish and Latin American culture through reading and teacher presentation.433 Spanish 3
Advanced
This course develops students' conversational and writing skills and focuses on their usage of advanced grammatical constructions. Short stories, magazine articles, and films are used as a basis for discussion, composition, and the study of culture.434 Spanish 3
Honors
In Spanish 3, students are encouraged to develop their proficiency in Spanish through correct usage of grammatical structures and vocabulary. This course focuses on students’ oral and written expression. Students read short stories and magazine articles to stimulate conversation.443 Spanish 4
Advanced
This course emphasizes proficiency in the oral and written language through the study of grammar and literature. Students are introduced to many different aspects of Spanish and Latin American culture through videos, tapes, and authentic Spanish realia. This course is for the student with a solid foundation in Spanish. Oral and written presentations are required. Seniors exhibiting high proficiency in language use may be invited by the department to prepare for the AP exam upon completion of the course. Preparation for the AP exam would require extra study on the part of the student under the guidance of the teacher.444 Spanish 4
Honors
Spanish 4 is designed for the student who wishes to become more proficient in Spanish, but who needs a review and reinforcement in grammar, speaking, and writing. Students continue their study of Spanish and Latin American culture and civilization through readings, projects, and films.453 Spanish 5
Advanced
An AP Examination is offered in this course.
Spanish 5 emphasizes proficiency in the oral and written language. Students are exposed to selected readings in addition to rigorous AP exam preparation. Class discussion and vocabulary study promote fluency. Compositions and oral presentations are required. Students may take the AP exam upon completion of this course.454 Spanish 5
